Found on the outskirts of Wiltshire, not far from Chippenham, Walled Garden offers the very best of seasonal produce, found on the sprawling grounds of Lucknam Park.
A tranquil and neutral space, you’ll find exposed brick walls and a colour palette of stone and sage, with wall to ceiling windows that ensure the place is constantly bathed in light. The verdant interiors match the name, offering a relaxing environment to tuck into artistically designed plates of British cuisine. This restaurant is headed up by Head Chef Alex Greene, working as the perfect counterpart to Michelin-starred Restaurant Hywel Jones, which is also found at Lucknam Park.
Walled Garden brings a seasonal dining experience, with regularly changing menus that focus on local and fresh produce across a selection of starters, mains, grills, pizzas and pastas. Begin with some light nibbles in the form of cheddar cheese chou with pickle, and Cornish crab toasts, or starters of ‘nduja scotch egg with romesco and fennel, or hay smoked trout with gin and cucumber.
Move onto the likes of Wiltshire lamb with courgette, aubergine and feta, or smoked pork chop with a choice of salads or potatoes as a side. Finish your meal with indulgent desserts of cherry and chocolate frangipane, or even a peach and raspberry knickerbocker glory.
Open seven days a week, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there’s a selection of menus depending on the time of day you visit. If you’re just popping in for a mid afternoon stop off, then you’ll be greeted with a menu of sandwiches, wraps and small plates, including the likes of padron peppers, garden pea falafel and duck spring rolls. There’s even a children’s menu that’s bound to keep your little ones satisfied.
Come summer you can even enjoy your snacks al fresco, with one of a few tables on the outdoor terrace, giving a front row view of the sprawling gardens.
