What was once Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Cafe has been given a new lease of life under the famous chef’s Bread Street Kitchen brand.
Bread Street Kitchen Southwark (there are also sites in St Paul’s and Ealing) is an industrial-chic space, featuring imposing columns, exposed ceiling pipes and large floor-to-ceiling windows which flood the space with natural light. Guests can choose to sit at dark wood tables or cosy up on curved mustard yellow banquettes, while perusing the menu of globally inspired dishes.
The menu at Bread Street Kitchen is divided up between snacks, starters, salads, mains, meats cooked on a charcoal grill, sides and desserts. You can expect to find some dishes that have become synonymous with the Gordon Ramsay Restaurant Group, such as the famed beef wellington with truffle brie mashed potato, alongside a few seasonal options and dishes exclusive to this location.
Begin your meal with the likes of chilli-glazed prawn skewers with pineapple chutney and lime or roasted pepper and tomato soup with creme fraiche and chive. Next up, take your pick from the list of mains such as roasted cod or a butter chicken and cashew nut curry, or enjoy meats cooked on a charcoal grill - 10oz dry-aged ribeye steak perhaps, or maybe grilled spatchcocked poussin with chimichurri sauce. Vegetarian and vegan diners are not an afterthought either, with plant-based options including spiced barbecue glazed aubergine with a pepper, tomato and herb salad.
To round things off, choose from a tempting selection of sweet treats: chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream and pineapple and melon carpaccio are just two possibilities. If you prefer liquid afters, instead peruse Bread Street’s list of house made cocktails or treat yourself to a glass of Champagne.
Come the weekend, head here for Saturday brunch or a slap-up roast on Sundays.
