The Two Sawyers is a renovated 16th century inn in the East Sussex village of Pett. Many period features have been retained, such as the large open fire in the dining room and wooden beams and supports throughout. This creates the feel of a classic country pub, the likes of which have existed in Britain for centuries. The Two Sawyers also offers four en-suite double rooms.
Food is served at lunch and dinner. For the former there’s a range of ‘basket meals’, sandwiches and wraps with fries. Options include scampi and tartar sauce, sausage and brown sauce, and buttermilk chicken tenders with BBQ sauce.
The evening menu is firmly in the country pub tradition. For starters, there’s the likes of chicken liver parfait, cheese souffle and soup of the day. Mains include fish and chips, pan fried liver and bacon, and a trio of sausages with mash potatoes, onion gravy and Savoy cabbage. There’s also a 10oz rib-eye steak, which is served with a portobello mushroom, fries and a range of sauces. Those after something lighter can choose from a chicken Caesar or Asian salad.
A roast is served on Sundays. Meat options are beef rump, rack of pork or chicken breast. For vegetarians, there’s a mushroom, Camembert and chutney parcel. All roasts are served with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and gravy. To drink, there’s a large selection of bitters, ales and lagers.
The Two Sawyers also prides itself on its rotating line-up of guest ales. These are sourced from breweries across the country. Scottish single malt whisky also features heavily in the drinks menu, making for the ideal night cap for those staying at the pub.
