Manhattan’s area code (212) happens to mirror the house number here: a happy coincidence for this NYC East Village-style bar. Open for morning coffee, happy hour (5-8pm) and until 1am at weekends, Two One Two is somewhere to relax with cut-price cocktails and imported brewskis – and to view Brick Lane’s colourful parade from the small covered terrace. Indoors, the lo-fi Woodstock-era room has walls hung with art from a next-door gallery, alongside retro slouch-couches that accommodate Yeezy geezers and might-be-models drawn to old-faithful cocktails. Margarita, Espresso Martini and French 75 are joined by not particularly inspired house ideas such as bourbon slug Rosemary’s Reserve, Chilli Chocolate Negroni (an acquired taste) and Eve’s Temptation (Tanqueray gin with apple). Inexpensive organic wines are what to drink with BYO grub; we suggest stocking up at 24-hour Beigel Bake opposite, where fillings of salt beef, chopped herring, and smoked salmon and cream cheese await.
