Turtle Bay in Manchester’s Northern Quarter brings the energy of the Caribbean to the city. Near to the airy space and water fountain of Piccadilly Gardens this is a good place to come to for a quick lunch, an evening meal out with friends or some drinks. The outside looks relatively demure, but once you’re inside the energy of the place is undeniable; vibrant art and paintings surround colourful furniture - speakers line one of the walls - in an industrial-style space. Loud music, the sound of cocktail shakers and open flames from the kitchen greet you as you enter.
The extensive food menu matches the energy of the space. A range of small plates work very well if you’re here to drink but don’t want to do so on an empty stomach, and with things like mac ‘n’ cheese bites why wouldn’t you want to have some of these. Everything on the menu is infused with soul, from the burgers and buddha bowls to the jerk pit and West Indian curries all of which have a Caribbean twist - witness coconut buttermilk fried chicken for instance. Being a bar as well as a restaurant the drinks list is broad and, as you might have guessed by now, lively, focusing on cocktails and rums you can choose things like the One Love cocktail containing dark rum, passion fruit and coconut.
Perhaps the most compelling reasons to go to Turtle Bay is for its daily happy hour which extends throughout the day and at night (after a break in the evening) as well as the bottomless brunch which can be enjoyed every single day of the week. We all love a bottomless brunch and this is one of the more generous ones; you have two hours to enjoy something from the brunch, burger or roti menu as well a choice of bottomless cocktails, mocktails, beer or Prosecco. Turtle Bay brings some serious energy and whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or ready to settle in for hours, it’s bound to rub off on you.
