Set among Kingsland Road’s Vietnamese contingent, this diminutive Turkish-owned early-to-late American-style café/bar also offers a different night out whenever its basement hosts free live music – often of the ‘hep-kat’ jazz combo variety. Unpretentious surroundings with free Wi-Fi set the scene for light grazing on anything from Turkish-style breakfasts or pastries with coffee to wraps, Mediterranean mezze platters, tapas and hot dishes – fried squid with tartare sauce, grilled haloumi with salads, sujuk sausages, and the like. To drink, choose from a selection of wines arranged on display units, including organic house red, white and rosé (also available to take away). Beers include draught Efes, and there’s a good range of spirits, cider and soft drinks too. Smokers have tables on a bijou covered terrace at the rear, and prices are similarly scaled down.
