Tre Viet is a celebration of all things Vietnamese, right in the heart of Hackney. Here, there are fresh flavours aplenty in every dish, thanks to the quality of produce used. There is a welcoming and relaxed vibe, the walls are painted with Vietnamese art while spider plants and lanterns dangle from the ceiling. It’s the perfect place to escape the noise and heat of east London for a relaxing evening of great food and friendly service. Well-equipped for groups thanks to various sharing platters, we recommend teaming up to try more of the menu.
If visiting during the day, be sure to try the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, while later on, most go for Saigon lager or a soft drink. Choose a platter to sample many of the menu's greatest hits. The meat platter features pork and prawn spring rolls, salt and pepper chilli squid, salad and prawn summer rolls, while the vegetarian version swaps in vegetable spring rolls and summer rolls, salt and pepper tofu as well as plenty of papaya and salad.
The noodle dishes aren’t to be missed either. Featuring vermicelli, you’ll find plenty of choice when it comes to toppings, including spicy lemongrass prawns, grilled fish or marinated pork. If you want a side of rice then the special fried option is worth a try, packed with chicken, prawns and sausage. Alternatively, go simpler with egg-fried rice. For something heartier, there are clay pot dishes such as slow-cooked pork belly, Saigon chicken curry or ribeye with oyster sauce. Lighter options, meanwhile, include a delicious shredded mango salad or spicy beef salad.
If you want a quick bite for lunch, try the banh mi. Choose from tofu and mushroom, pork or chicken, each packed with cucumber, pickled vegetables, herbs and fresh chillis. Add a squeeze of lime and you’ll be hooked.
