You may well have already heard of Tonight Josephine, as the loud and proud, pink-fuelled bar chain that reaches from London and Birmingham through to Cardiff, Bristol and Liverpool. It’s a brand that’s been built around the tale of Joséphine Bonaparte who was initially married to French political figure Alexandre de Beauharnais before courting and marrying Napoleon Bonaparte after her first husband’s execution. She soon became Empress of the French and was known for her party spirit and raucous social life. It’s this sense of excitement that the bars try to capture, creating spaces where everyone is welcome to come and be themselves.

The Birmingham branch has all the same trappings that made its sibling sites a roaring success. Barbie pink interiors, an upbeat playlist and a drinks menu packed with please-all cocktails. These include twists on classics, like a spiced cosmo which has been given a hint of spice with the addition of a citrus and gingerbread syrup, or the bar's take on a margarita that combines tequila, triple sec, jalapeno, pineapple, lime, and Tabasco.

It’s not only the drinks people flock here for though, there’s also a killer brunch menu that makes for a fun event come the weekend. You’ll find please-all plates like a roasted chicken Caesar salad topped with garlic and herb croutons, shaved Parmesan and served with skinny fries, or the slow cooked vegan chilli which is accompanied by lemon and herb rice, guacamole, pico de gallo and soured cream. The Birmingham site is also no stranger to special events. You’ll find a routine line-up of shows like an Abba themed singalong or a Beyonce drag brunch where guests come dressed to the nines to enjoy kicking off the weekend in the best way possible.
