Judging by its well-worn floor tiles, this convivial wine bar & bistro hard by Victoria station has kept office workers & commuters fed & watered for many a year. The dining room makes the most of limited space with elbow-to-elbow tables, but it’s also a terrific destination for grape lovers, with an extensive list of Old & New World wines – including a section devoted to the ‘terroir’ of single-estate producers, plus some sparklers from Tiles own vineyard in Wales. A ‘let’s do lunch’ deal advertises one main dish & a glass of house wine for £10.95, while the carte takes in anything from salt & pepper squid to char-grilled Argentinian rib-eye & béarnaise or asparagus & pea risotto. The laid-back basement lounge with its comfy sofas can be hired for private parties.
