TikiTail is a small, London-based chain of cocktail bars with a healthy food offering, inspired by Hawaii with a Jamaican twist. The concept of bringing these two unique cultures together might sound surprising, but it is inspired by the founder's real-life experiences, and with three restaurants and counting, clearly, it works!
The founder, Kam, originally hails from Jamaica and after moving to London, she began to miss the many delights of a warmer climate. So, she treated herself to a holiday - not back home, but somewhere new and its effect was profound. Hawaii captured Kam's heart and when she was once again back in London, she looked for a way to bring the tropics to her, and did so in the form of her cocktail bars.
TikiTail is evenings-only most nights (apart from Friday and Saturday when it is open from midday), serving cocktails until the early hours. As is custom with most tiki bars, there's a large selection of rum-based drinks including the Drunken Bird with dark rum, spiced rum, passion fruit juice, orgeat and ginger beer, or the Tiki Colada with dark rum, Malibu, pineapple, orange, coconut cream and nutmeg. Alongside many of the classics, the bar also has a selection of its own creations, such as the Moe Moe with raspberries, Wray & Nephew, dark rum, grenadine and pineapple juice, as well as the mysterious BlackTail 15 which is a secret recipe.
If you're peckish, tuck into some Tiki Bites at the bar, like tempura king prawns, lobster nahu, and sushi rolls. And there's no need to go light and stop there, with a whole food menu to try. Why not indulge in some sharing bites for the table like deep fried pineapple and calamari, or go big with a king prawn burger stuffed with crispy onions and spicy Kewpie mayo? TikiTail is particularly proud of its poke bowls which are served with sushi rice and vegetables alongside a portion of protein such as honey soy glazed salmon, cajun chicken and beef short rib.
