Just five minutes’ stroll from Victoria station, The Warwick goes about its gastropub duties while keeping a good eye on all things ‘pubby’. A hotchpotch of bare tables, polished chesterfields, and the occasional stained glass window set the tone, the wine list is made for easy drinking and there are real ales at the bar. The menu in the upstairs dining room is an ambitious roster that runs from cauliflower and confit garlic velouté to pineapple carpaccio with red chilli jelly via tournedos of beef with foie gras or monkfish with Serrano ham, celeriac mousseline, Puy lentils and lobster bisque – although you can also come here for burgers and beer-battered cod. Otherwise, nibble on steamed edamame, Mozzarella sticks and spicy chicken wings while sipping a Manhattan at the bar. Weekend breakfasts and quizzes on Sunday evenings, too.
