Handily placed between Upper Richmond Road and the river, this gastropub and bar is popular for all sorts of reasons. Done out with a hotchpotch of contemporary art, ethnic furniture, open fires and quirky lighting it feeds the locals with a please-all menu ranging from sautéed squid with chorizo, parsley and lime to tangerine and almond cake or pecan and chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream. In between, there are sharing boards, grilled rib-eye steaks, burgers, fishcakes and pasta (perhaps linguine with crayfish and Dorset crab, chilli and garlic). Monthly quizzes, regular two-for-one deals, tapas nights, cocktail evenings and live music are part of the mix, and the Tree House also boasts a highly sought-after function room upstairs for private events. Wine buffs should look out for regularly advertised bin ends when the list is being updated.
