The Tartan Fox is the second pub from the Adam Handling group, and is a beautiful restaurant and pub that has guest bedrooms in the Cornish countryside. Near to Newquay, the name of this restaurant takes inspiration from Adam's Scottish roots, along with the location of the pub – near a Cornish forest, where plenty of foxes scurry around. Adam Handling MBE started out at Gleneagles 16 years ago, and has since won the awards of Scottish Chef of the Year, Restaurateur of the Year, and BBC TV’s Great British Menu ‘Champion of Champions’.
Adam was also selected to be one of four British chefs that created an official recipe for the coronation of King Charles III. The Tartan Fox has gardens to enjoy during the sunny months, and offers British pub food with a luxury approach. The real star factor of this pub restaurant is that it showcases the best of produce from in and around Cornwall.
On the all day menu, things begin with snacks. Choose from bread with chicken butter, cheese doughnuts, black pudding bon bons and hash browns with truffle cream and caviar. If you like to share amongst the table, choose a few smaller plates. These include the beef tartare with egg yolk and wagyu fat toast, BBQ mussels with green chilli and ginger, a ham hock toastie with piccalilli, and English burrata with courgette and basil. Larger plates, which are the restaurant's equivalent to main dishes, include hake with white beans and a chicken butter sauce, fish and chips with mushy peas, a pie of the day with mash and onion gravy, and shellfish linguine tossed with chilli and basil.
