Located in Wolverhampton’s Mander Centre, The Subcontinent is an Indian restaurant that is all about reinterpreting the classic regional Indian dishes so that they're lifted to a new level. Priding itself on its use of British ingredients to create fusion-style dishes, you'll find a lot of things on the menu that you might not have tried before. The Subcontinent's relaxed ambience and cheerful service, make it a fantastic place to visit whether you're looking for somewhere to go for a family meal, or a big celebration with friends.
The minimalist nature of the restaurant's dining room makes in the perfect spot to get stuck into the progressive style of Indian cuisine on offer. The painted brick walls inside The Subcontinent along with the colourful light fittings which hang from the roof, give the small restaurant a modern feel too. At the far end a well-stocked bar conceals the kitchen from view.
The Subcontinent's menu begins with a series of starters such as crispy tempura prawns, hara bhara kebab, tawa fish, and tandoori chicken wings. Other options include a range of chaats, including a wonderful chicken tikka chaat puri and North Indian favourite gol gappa, as well as a number of starter-sized spicy wraps.
Main courses range from curries such as murgh makhani and a Bengal kaffir lime fish curry, to dishes including spiced rub grilled salmon and Goan chicken Cafreal on the bone. For those who aren't feeling like keeping things traditional, there are also burgers and fries available. Meanwhile, for children, there's a separate food menu featuring dishes such as chicken korma and rice, and scampi.
The Subcontinent also offers a wide variety of different drinks to accompany your food, including a choice of wines by the glass and bottle, beers, spirits, and soft drinks for those who don't want to drink.
