The bold, brash Slug & Lettuce chain is the antithesis of the ‘best kept secret’ or ‘this little place I know’. It’s a bright & accessible pub empire with branches on high streets everywhere – including some so cleverly located they’re worth bearing in mind for that reason alone.
The Deansgate site opens for breakfast at 10am, so you can start your day with a Slug and Lettuce feast. Food is served throughout the day until 10pm, after which the venue turns into a more lively bar scene.
Slug and Lettuce is famed for its exciting cocktail offerings. Our personal favourites are the ‘I Carried a Watermelon’ (with watermelon gin, unsurprisingly), and the ‘I Don’t Think You’re Ready For This Berry’ - the names of the drinks alone make you want to try them all. Also, it's good to know that Slug and Lettuce Deansgate does 2 for 1 cocktails at select times, so make sure you time your visit to align with that.
Food menus cover all bases, with a list of categories longer than some pubs’ full menus – curries, pastas, burgers, tostadas, wraps & more besides. If you’re after something light to share with friends, there’s an impressive small plates selection, featuring cheesy chicken wings, halloumi fries, and crispy cauliflower bites. The tacos on offer are also fun, with jackfruit, chicken, or BBQ beef fillings. If you’re not cocktail inclined, but you still fancy something sweet, the dessert menu might just hit the spot, especially the strawberry daiquiri cheesecake.
Of course, we couldn’t talk about Slug and Lettuce without nodding to its famous bottomless brunch, which is £30 for two hours, or its afternoon tea, available everyday between 12pm and 4.30 pm. Essentially, there’s something for every occasion at the Slug and Lettuce, and its Deansgate site is no exception.
