The Six Bells is an independent country pub located in the village of Witham on the Hill in Lincolnshire, awarded with a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its excellent British food. While the site has been going since 1908, it was only taken over by its current owners, Jim and Sharon, who brought in their own team from 2021. Together, the pair have owned a multitude of restaurants and cafes across the county, and enlisted help from old friends and previous colleages to help bring this place to life.
Since opening, the team have already been recognised for their honest approach to real, simple food. The a la carte is seasonal and highlights local farmers and growers in the area with dishes like crispy free range pork belly with mash, Yorkshire black pudding and cider sauce, alongside roast fillet of Shetland cod with chorizo and leek risotto, and wild mushroom and spinach macaroni mixed salad.
If you're in the mood for pub classes, The Six Bells do a hearty range of signatures that will be just what you were craving. Think beer battered fish and chips with creamed peas, half a chicken with french fries and Owen Taylors Lincolnshire bangers and mash. There's also a selection of wood oven pizzas, complete with fluffy crusts and an assortment of toppings. So, whether you're looking for high brow concoctions or satisfying pub grub, they've got it all.
And, for those who are a sucker for a good Sunday roast, this is the place. Choose between sirloin of aged beef, leg of lamb, loin of pork with apple sauce, stuffing and crackling, all roasted in a wood fired oven for extra depth of flavour. Or, if chicken is more your thing, try the breast of corn-fed rôtisserie chicken with stuffing, and all served with Yorkshire pudding, honey roast carrot and parsnip, and traditional Sunday vegetables.
