In pursuit of great seafood in Edinburgh? Visit The Ship on the Shore, where you can taste some of the freshest and most extraordinary fish and seafood. The team at this restaurant takes great pride in using the freshest ingredients that they source daily from sustainable stocks, and aim to supply the city with one of the best seafood dining experiences in Scotland.
The menu is certainly not fussy, and is simple with what it offers, but you're promised an excellent experience. The seafood pie royale is made with salmon, smoked haddock, king scallops, prawns and lobster, topped with a creamy mashed potato, and is a true feast. The Ship's fish and chips is a great piece of Hoegaarden battered haddock, and for a bit of luxury, try the surf and turf with half a Scottish lobster and thermidor sauce.
Perfect for lunchtime with tenderstem broccoli and baby potatoes, order the Shetland salmon wrapped in filo pastry with sorrel hollandaise. There's a fresh roasted hand dived king scallops served Ship style, made with garlic, coriander and caper butter, tarragon, sweet potato mustard mash and sea greens. Although you're dining at a seafood restaurant, you may fancy something a little different. If so, opt for the baked parmigiana with sliced eggplant, tomato and basil sauce with vegan parmesan, mozzarella and a walnut salad, or the 10 oz ribeye steak with roast cherry tomatoes and Ship's chips.
Dessert includes a vanilla pod creme brulee, sticky toffee pudding, and dark chocolate tart with whipped cream and raspberry ice cream. If you're in the mood for a little of everything, order the love boat, with a trio of mini sticky toffee pudding, creme brulee and cheesecake.
