Seveney Street, as Essex Road was once known, is home to this cute Canonbury indie music bar and dining room. It’s an unfussy corner boozer – mint-green fixtures against a cool cream backdrop – latterly known as Hops & Glory. Hops are still in strong supply: North Brewing Co’s Transmission and Siren’s Undercurrent oatmeal pale ale are two on tap among various global brews. Scribbled on the wall, young owner Fabian Magnusson’s drinks list focuses on Highballs – blackberry sloe gin and peach, or a chai rum and blood-orange Mule, say. Requests for classic cocktails can be accommodated, and a dozen wines plus bubbles cover most options. To eat, try bar snacks such as fried Korean peppers, or (our favourite) sourdough ham hock and Gruyère croque madame. The supper menu is sensibly short and fairly priced; highlights might include confit rabbit with Jerusalem artichoke and chard. Book for Sunday roasts or brunch.
