Clapham High Street isn’t short of pubs but grabbing a decent bite to eat at one can still be a challenge. Bringing the promise of good food, a stellar drinks list and a cosy pub feel is The Saxon.
Run by The East London Pub Co, the venue is set over four floors and can accommodate up to 220 covers across the various rooms. Each space has a unique vibe, from the buzzy roof terrace through to the spacious indoor mezzanine, and private events can be easily accommodated in several different ways throughout the building for exclusive celebrations.
Interiors have been carefully considered to create a relaxed atmosphere. Think the layering of organic textures, a warm colour palette, plush banquette seating and an impressive central bar topped with marble on each floor.
The menu has been carefully curated to make use of local produce, with the team having relationships with a number of UK-based suppliers. Meat, for instance, comes from The butchers Block who are third generation butchers, and all chicken is free range and comes from a farm in Norfolk.
Bar snacks are on offer throughout the day and night, and if you’re after something more substantial there’s a list of classic comfort food dishes (not forgetting the Sunday roast come the weekend). Small plates include charcuterie and cheese boards as well as sharing dishes like burrata with tomato, lemon oil, coriander seeds and toast; courgette cakes with a lime and turmeric dip; popcorn chicken and habanero mayo; and chicken wings smothered in hot sauce and served with a blue cheese dip.
As you might expect from a pub, the drinks list here is extensive. There is a solid selection of cocktails which include frozen ones in the summer, as well as plenty of wines, beers, spirits and softs to choose from too.
