Does Shoreditch stalwart The Redchurch have a prayer against the tsunami of DJ-animated, late-night cocktail lounges that have swamped this neighbourhood? Believers have kept the faith, but you can get an awful lot of drink (and ritzier decor) elsewhere for the advertised cost of a martinez or espresso martini here (‘from £12.50'). Still, there's no faulting the presentation of cocktails from a list brimming with ideas based on top-notch spirits – including an interesting array of rums, bourbons and sexy Scotch at eye-watering prices (Johnnie Walker Blue Label, for example). Shoreditch's handsomely remunerated blue-sky thinkers might try a ‘rumdog millionaire' for size (a riff on Negroni involving Havana Club seven-year-old, Campari and guava); others can take comfort in bottles of house white (£16) and some reasonably priced tapas and mezze plates.
