The Red Deer is in Balloch in the Glasgow suburb of Cumbernauld. The Balloch area was built in the 1970s for those who wanted to leave city life but still live in a commutable distance. It takes its name from a farm on what was the Fleming family’s Cumbernauld estate, a derivative of the Scots Gaelic word for a pass between hills or mountains.
The food menu features pub classics and a selection of dishes from other cuisines. Starters include duck and orange parfait, soup of the day and a king prawn cocktail. Pie of the day and fish and chips represent traditional British pub mains, while the likes of chicken and vegetable Panang curry and king prawn linguine are also on offer. Dessert choices are grounded in the traditional - raspberry Eton mess, apple and sticky toffee pudding all feature.
Every Sunday a roast is served. Turkey is a main and pigs-in-blankets are not reserved for Christmas and on the menu all year. The Sunday Trio combines all three meats (turkey, beef and pork belly) and ,like all roasts, comes with unlimited gravy. Stone-baked pizzas and a selection of grilled burgers round out the mains options.
You’ll also find a brunch menu. This ranges from a full cooked breakfast (also available vegetarian) to pulled beef brisket hash to eggs, Florentine, royal or Benedict. In addition, there’s a fixed price lunch menu, which includes steak frites, pizzas and a nourish bowl, is £15.50 for two courses, £19.50 if you add a third.
The Red Deer is one of 180 Vintage Inns. All pubs in the network are dog-friendly and can be hired for special occasions.
