This amiable boozer has all bases covered with a decent showing of British grub & a changing array of real ales. Set over two floors with a picturesque wood-panelled upstairs dining room, the QA is something of a neighbourhood oasis for astute pub-goers. Meantime London Lager, Bitburger & a constantly evolving roster of well-kept cask beers (Atlantic IPA, for example), keep drinkers happy, while foodies can content themselves with tried-&-tested favourites running from deep-fried whitebait with rocket & garlic mayonnaise to salmon fillet with Jersey Royals. Burgers, steaks & bangers abound, & you’d be hard-pressed to find a better local deal at lunchtime, when £5.50 might pay for roast chicken with pancetta, mash & peas. It’s all very snappy: ‘order, eat & carry on drinking’, advises one fan.
