The Oak Room Restaurant is situated inside of The George of Stamford. Steeped in history, and surrounded by a great atmosphere, The Oak Room is a restaurant worthy of your time. The food here is said to be incredibly delicious, with an eclectic menu that features many traditional dishes that are amongst favourite and unusual plates. If you find yourself feeling fancy, enjoy watching the carver as they get to work with the whole sirloin of the very best roast beef, right at your tableside on a silver domed wagon.
If you can get in before last orders at 11am, enjoy a delicious brunch. Try the lobster Benedict with half a lobster, wild rocket, avocado, soft poached free-range egg and hollandaise sauce, all atop a Hambleton Bakery muffin. There are oysters, omelettes and other egg dishes on the menu, too, along with a selection of Fortnum & Mason loose leaf teas.
But really, it's the main menu where the fuss is at. For your first course, try the twice baked vintage Lincolnshire Poacher cheddar souffle with wholegrain mustard sauce and pickled chicory, the tempura king prawn saffron risotto with mascarpone and kale pesto, or the chicken consomme with fine diced vegetables and black truffle. Before your main course, try the Limoncello sorbet for a palate cleanser. Then, why not enjoy the poached turbot with braised gem lettuce and a warm tartare sauce, a grand Brittany platter with half an Atlantic lobster, crab, king prawn, oyster, mussels, clams, cockles and whelks, or the sirloin of beef from the trolley. This rich beef is carved for you at your table, served rare to medium, and with a Yorkshire pudding, duck fat roast potatoes and hot horseradish sauce.
