There are three things on the menu at Meat Shack Birmingham, but really, it’s just two: burgers and fries (the third is three options of chicken bombs). This simplicity in approach allows focus, expertise, and then speciality – a concept worked within and done very well. The restaurant started life as street vendors and moved into a restaurant space, but the attitude to its craft has remained the same: quality, satisfying, and spicy burgers served to hungry customers.
All beef burgers are made from a five-ounce grass fed dry aged beef patty, to ensure a consistently high quality, and generally hand-smashed to be super crispy. All burgers come to under a tenner, and they all are topped with cheese to ensure you’re served with a sinfully greasy experience that you can’t help but love. If you’re bringing someone on a date here, make sure you’re comfortable with losing yourself (and maybe a bit of decency) into the eating experience and getting food on your face. It serves its Mr. C burger, which is a standard cheeseburger style, but after that most burgers contain more unique elements like candy bacon crumb, black pudding, and a theme of various hot sauces.
Chicken burgers are an option too, substituting the beef for chicken, but sticking with the style of providing spicy, greasy burgers. The fries take a similar approach, there really is no relenting of the pleasant greasiness and spiciness that the Meat Shack offers. Options include: buffalo hot sauce and blue cheese covered fries, fresh green chilli relish and Holy F**k hot sauce and mustard covered fries, and cheese and bacon.
The restaurant is located on Thorp Street, opposite the Hippodrome, near New Street Station, and several hotels and bars. It is available on Uber Eats for delivery, and would be a perfect hangover cure if you can wait for the opening time of 5pm, although we don’t wish a hangover that long on anyone.
