Doing precisely what its name implies, the Lobster Shack is a shed sitting beside North Berwick’s small harbour. It has a handful of tables – all alfresco, no cover – & it sells the freshest of seafood, cooked simply for eat-ins & take-outs. Waiting in the queue, you might see live lobsters being delivered that could end up on your plate within 30 minutes; otherwise, the menu brings in mussels, langoustines, mackerel, sea bass or sole, all served with salad & chips. Specials depend on the catch, wine comes in plastic glasses, beer in bottles – everything is handled without pretension or fuss. A brilliant addition to the food scene in deservedly popular East Lothian coastal resort town. [Note: closed October-March.]
