Former boozer The Pelican has made way for the third branch of London’s original Italian craft beer pub. This latest manifestation of The Italian Job is more ambitious than both the Chiswick original and Elephant & Castle follow-up, chucking Italian food into the mix and recreating a 1920s Sicilian speakeasy upstairs – Salotto ’900. Numerous draught beers include three from the owners’ microbrewery, Ducato, near Parma; try the Chrysopolis, a sour beer. Alternatively, Amiata’s Drago della Selva will appeal to fans of smoky Islay malts. Bar food is worth a punt too: the likes of mozzarella and anchovy bruschetta or salumi platters. Otherwise, select from a daily menu, kicking off with moist mushroom arancini with Taleggio and continuing with typical pasta plates such as linguine with cod roe and clams, or hearty warming lamb ragu and broad beans over casarecce. To finish, filled cannoli pastries offer an authentic taste of Sicily.
