James Lyon-Shaw and Jamie Dobbin were both disenchanted with the hustle and bustle of the big city, and found their culinary partnership while working in the renowned Ivy restaurant. Eager to trade London's smoky underground and urban landscapes for the tranquillity of leafy surroundings and a stronger sense of community, they embarked on a journey together. Their first venture, The Greene Oak in Windsor, was met with acclaim, and in 2020, they extended their signature rustic cuisine and warm hospitality to Mayford with the opening of The Drumming Snipe. Now, with the inauguration of The Greyhound, their third collaborative endeavour, they have created a pub that the local community of Finchampstead can take pride in.
The Greyhound boasts a diverse food and beverage selection designed to cater to every palate. The wine list features a range from approachable wines to unique biodynamic selections. Thanks to The Greyhound’s Coravin wine system, they can even offer exceptional fine wines by the glass. The rotating cask beer selection highlights local brewers, and the team also has premium lagers and ciders on tap, along with a fine array of bottled beers. For those seeking low or no alcohol options, there’s an intriguing assortment of soft drinks, juices, mocktails, and refreshing kombucha beverages, ensuring that everyone can find a satisfying drink to enjoy.
When it comes to food, order some delicious sharers for the table, from London sourdough with salted butter to chickpea katsu croquettes and mint raita. Starters include spiced pumpkin soup with a 'chorizo' bon bon, roast celeriac, cep and watercress salad with vegan feta, and a duck liver parfait with bacon jam and endive. Mains range from a venison cottage pie with sprouting broccoli, day boat fish and chips with minted peas and tartare sauce and sautéed gnocchi with caramelised cauliflower, kale and girolles and hazelnut dressing.
