This quintessential Wadsworth’s pub is a perfect place to hole up for a laid-back Sunday lunch before a walk around the historic National Trust village of Lacock. Beef (in our case a little tough) or chicken comes with all the trimmings including Yorkshire pudding and gravy. A good vegetarian offering might be wild mushroom, celeriac, chestnut and cheese filo Wellington served with crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and, of course, Yorkshire pudding & vegetarian gravy. Alternatively start with smoked salmon with horseradish crème fraiche, chicken liver parfait or soup of the day followed, if you choose with fish and chips, beef burgers and ham and egg. Wash it all down with Wadworth 6X or a glass of unchallenging Pinot Grigio rosé.
