About

One of the only remaining pubs on the Isle of Dogs, The George is traditional British pub owned by the Hippo Inns group. Bursting with character, The George is exactly what you want from an east end pub - big plates of British classics alongside a wide selection of drinks, all served up in a cosy, informal setting. Its convenient location right opposite Crossharbour station only makes it an even more appealing option when looking for the perfect pub.

The George's red brick facade immediately evokes the feeling that your entering an old school boozer. Inside, it's an equally traditional affair with wooden panels a plenty and walls covered in framed pictures. The pub benefits from two bars: the main public bar, and a more relaxed lounge bar. On top of this there is also a conservatory area that opens out onto a gorgeous beer garden, which is a great sun trap during the summer.

The food offering really is a 'Best of British' affair, with starters including everything from salt beef bites with mustard mayo to chicken liver parfait served alongside ciabatta and red onion chutney. Main courses include classics such as fish and chips, and ham, egg and chips, as well as pies from east end institution Maureen's Pies. When it comes to puddings, you can expect all the crowd pleasers such as chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding. Head over on Sundays to enjoy one of the George's amazing roasts served with all the trimmings.

Drinks at The George include an extensive list of wines by both the bottle and glass. On top of this there are also plenty of different beers available on draught and also from bottles, as well as a wide selection of spirits. There are also a number of great soft drink options for those avoiding alcohol.
