The Geese is known to locals as the bangers and mash pub, as it always sources its sausages locally, and keeps them changing on the menu. A favourite within the community, this pub offers great food, local ales, and an expert selection of wines. Good music is usually playing, along with friendly faces scattered behind the bar. The kitchen is closed for food service on Mondays, but is open every other day of the week. Near to Brighton, The Geese feels like a locals pub in Hanover, partly due to its modern take on an old pub with charm.
You may not be surprised to find that the menu consists mainly of sausages. The first is a Cumberland sausage, those made with rare breed pork, pork and chilli, Toulouse sausage, venison and Moroccan spiced lamb. Next up is the mash. Choose from brown butter mash, plain, cheesy, mustard and dill, garlic and herb, bone marrow, black pudding, colcannon and horseradish. Lastly you’ve got the gravy, perhaps the best part. Options include proper meat flavour, plain vegan, onion gravy, Guinness and Marmite. If you’re not fancying a sausage and mash meal, try some small plates. Whilst designed to have alongside your bangers, you could definitely eat a few of these on their own.
There are the crispy baked potatoes with a garlic and mustard and mayo dip, cauliflower or broccoli cheese, pigs in blankets or seasonal greens. On Sunday, you’ll be able to enjoy a Sunday roast. Options include pork belly, Herefordshire rump of beef, garlic and thyme roast chicken, a beetroot and sweet potato Wellington and vegan sausage roast. Whatever day you visit The Geese, you know that you’ll get a slap up meal.
