The Gate is a lively all-day kitchen, bar and terrace that is found on the edge of picturesque Richmond Park.
Part of Richmond Harbour Hotel, The Gate’s dining room is light and airy, featuring an open kitchen and dark wood tables, while the neighbouring conservatory is a bright, colourful area home to patterned furnishings, hanging house plants and a dedicated bar.
The Gate offers a wide range of menus to diners, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea. The a la carte evolves with the seasons, but you can always expect to find simple, well-executed dishes that put ingredients first. If you are visiting in the morning, you can start your day with the likes of American-style pancakes crowned with bacon and maple syrup or a chorizo and potato hash, accompanied by spinach and poached eggs.
Later in the day, the menu expands to include starting plates of burrata with heritage tomatoes, hazelnuts and basil oil or grilled scallops with pea puree and crispy bacon crumble. Main courses meanwhile include sea bass fillet with grilled fennel and orange salad or options from the charcoal grill, such as the Harbour Cheeseburger which is presented in a brioche bun and comes topped with lettuce, tomato, West Country cheddar and burger relish, plus a side of fries.
Vegans and vegetarians aren’t left out of the fun either, thanks to the likes of a plant-based burger and kale tagliatelle with goat's cheese and nutty pesto. Children are welcome too and can choose from a dedicated menu which features child-friendly plates such as fish goujons with lemon mayonnaise and mac ‘n’ cheese.
To finish up, tuck into one of The Gate’s tempting pudding options, which include a salted caramel tart with toffee sauce and vanilla panna cotta with strawberry coulis and Amaretto biscuit crumble.
