Located in the picturesque village of Sunningwell, just outside of Abingdon and to the south of Oxford, The Flowing Well is everything you’d expect from a traditional countryside pub, serving up all the classics.
Named after the source of the stream which flows into the pond opposite the Church, this restaurant is nestled in a prime location for those travelling through the Cotswolds.
Traditional pub grub has had a bit of a face lift on The Flowing Well's menu of harissa mackerel nicoise, sticky pork belly tossed in steamed jasmine rice, gourmet steak, chicken and vegetable burgers, stone baked pizzas and even offering traditional beer battered fish in two sizes, so that you can order for your appetite. The restaurant serves up ‘The Great British Roast’ between 12 and 8pm on Sundays, and changes up both the specials and dessert boards daily. Customers will love The Flowing Well's 'Famous Steak Sharing Platter', which is available between 12 and 9pm, Monday to Saturday. For two, three, or four people, the platter includes a butcher's cut bavette steak cooked medium rare, and all the trimmings. Not just meat lovers, but vegans are also catered for, with dishes like the sourdough mediterranean vegetable flatbread.
If you’re visiting on a sunny day, you’ll be pleased to find plenty of outdoor tables in the beer garden, situated over two levels, looking out over a lush green. Indoors, the environment is warm and inviting. Wooden tables, cushioned booths and tartan covered chairs make this countryside pub a lovely choice to visit on both a warm summer's day, and cold British evening. If you find yourself at The Flowing Well during the colder months, you’ll be delighted to find the plush armchairs set in front of the roaring fire.
