After tiring of life in the big city, James Lyon and Jamie Dobbin - who came to be friends after working together in the kitchen at the prestigious Ivy restaurant - swapped a hectic London life for the leafy scenes of rural England. Their first move was the opening of The Greene Oak in Windsor and now the talented duo have brought their warm, welcoming service and signature rustic cooking to Mayford in Surrey with The Drumming Snipe. This quaint village is found between Woking and Guildford and is the perfect serene escape from the city.
A contemporary pub restaurant, The Drumming Snipe’s ever-changing menu is continuously developed to reflect seasonal offerings and to provide a varied and discerning dining experience to even the most regular of patrons. A selection of steaks and sauces feature on the menu, along with the likes of Scottish halibut, Cornish pouting and Fowley Bay mussels - a beautiful reflection of the best of British produce. For dessert you might choose traditional sticky toffee pudding teamed with honeycomb ice-cream and butterscotch, those without a sweet tooth may prefer the Wookey Hole cheddar and Eccles cake. A decently priced set menu is available Monday to Friday 11am-5pm and for the little ones there is a dedicated children’s menu
The Drumming Snipe takes pride in offering a diverse selection of wines, beers, cask ales and ciders that can be enjoyed relaxing in a Captain’s chair at the bar or as part of your meal in the exquisite dining room. The talented bar team can also mix up after dinner cocktails, and for those abstaining from alcohol there is a healthy list of low and no alcohol drinks on the menu.

My children and one grandson had an excellent meal on Saturday 09.11.24

The waiting staff were excellent, but we waited a long time for our food, so I suspect the problem lay in the kitchen. On this occasion it wasn't a big issue as we had a good table and were not on a timer. However, when the food came, it was fresh and hot.

we ate in a horse- box which was novel!
