Based up a small hill on the outskirts of Ilkley, The Cow and Calf is a charming country pub in an idyllic location. Getting its name from the famous rock formation which it overlooks on Ilkley moor, The Cow and Calf has wonderful views across the dale and is an amazing place to visit whether just for a pint, or for a full pub meal.
The grey stone building could easily be mistaken for a large house if it didn’t have the sign, with its grand front door and symmetrical windows. The inside of The Cow and Calf features a roaring fire with mismatching chairs dotted around and the odd blanket lying around. There’s also a small outdoor seating area where you can take in the amazing views close up during the warmer months.
The food menu at The Cow and Calf is full of classic, comforting pub grub. Starters on the broad menu include duo of pâté as well as a baked camembert for cold winter days. As well as classic mains such as hunter’s chicken and fish and chips, there is also a selection of pizzas available as well as a separate burger and steak menu. Puddings include bread and butter pudding and bramley apple pie.
As well as an additional sandwich and light lunch menu for those not wanting as much to eat, there is also a vegan menu and also a kids menu meaning that everyone is catered for. On Sundays at The Cow and Calf there is a selection of different roasts available alongside regular mains too.
Being a pub, the drinks offering is just as important as the food and The Cow and Calf has a number of regularly changing regional beers on draught as well as a handful of different wines and a number of gin options too.
