Staycations, cookery-school classes, afternoon teas, weddings and much much more, Lainston House does it all. With its red bricks peering out from beneath dripping curtains of greenery, this heritage-walled country house in Winchester encompasses 63 acres of gardens and rolling lawns. Within these impressive grounds and behind the welcoming red façade is the popular Cedar Bar. This stunning spot looks out at the property's spectacularly unique views, all the way down Lainston Houses' expansive avenue of lime trees, which as a collective holds the title of the UK's largest avenue of limes.
The bar boasts an extensive drinks selection, with the most significant of the lot being the carefully curated wine list as well as the gins displayed in the 'gin library'. Made to match the bar team's picks is a hearty selection of morning treats, desserts, snacks, and light bites, as well as main dishes for those a little more peckish. This combination makes The Cedar Bar the ideal spot to quench your thirst and grab some good food while you're at it.
With soft, supple leather armchairs that swallow you up, a roaring, open fireplace, a lusciously carpeted floor, and large windows letting in light and fresh countryside air, the interiors exude comfort. Enveloping all this traditional luxury is the ornate wood panelling around the walls (an element which inspired the name of this fine establishment). As the story goes, following a massive storm back in 1930, a Cedar tree was uprooted in the grounds surrounding the house. This very cedar tree was then worked and carved into what is now the Cedar Bar.
All-day dining is available from 12-9pm every day. Whether you are a local, hotel guest, or a tourist just passing through, make sure to head over for a relaxing countryside drink with friends and family.
