The Burger Shop Co. is in Arundel, West Sussex. It’s in the centre of the town’s high street, a short walk from the Arundel Museum and surrounded by the preserved period architecture that attracts scores of tourists every year. The restaurant is family owned and run, striving to make as much of the menu in house as possible while delivering an experience backed by great service. This is set against a typically modern burger joint backdrop: neon signs, wooden tables, milkshakes served in a handled jar, and a strong selection of craft beers and ales.
All burger patties are handmade from 100% British minced steak and served on brioche or vegan buns. There’s 14 toppings in total, ranging from the traditional to the innovative. Firmly in the former camp is The Classic, a 6oz steak patty topped with lettuce, pickles, and burger sauce. Cheese and bacon can be added (resulting in a Classic Cheese and Cheese & Bacon respectively), and there’s also the vegan Almost Classic Cheese.
Away from the old favourites you can find the likes of the Sergeant Pepper (6oz steak patty with portobello mushroom, onion straws, peppercorn sauce, and watercress), Waffle On (buttermilk chicken breast topped with bacon and maple syrup and served between two waffles), and Sloppy Joe (two 3oz smashed steak patties, nacho cheese chilli, jalapenos, and crushed nachos).
The menu also extends beyond burgers. Loaded nachos make for an ideal starter or sharing side, available either with the usual toppings of salsa, guacamole, sour cream, nacho cheese sauce and jalapenos, or homemade chilli. No burger is complete without fries, of which The Burger Shop Co. stocks several options, including halloumi fires, nacho fries, bacon fries, and sweet potato fries. As well as the usual soft drinks, the drinks menu also features a strong line up of milkshakes and floats. Hard shakes are also on offer, such as the Cherry Bakewell and the Pirate Treasure.
