With its quirky recycled decor, this funky elder sibling of The Montague Arms in New Cross takes its name from a famous chain of LA diners patronised by everyone from Clark Gable to Frank Sinatra. We’d eat our (brown Derby) hats if Hollywood A-listers started hanging out at this corner pub, but with espresso martinis, Japanese slipper and various secret-recipe cocktails referencing the owners’ favourite LA liquor lounges, it’s almost like a Californian movie star’s London home-from-home. Local rat-pack renegades will find names such as East London Brewing, London Fields and Redemption among a range of craft beers, while regular live music adds to the fun – think ska, bluegrass, C&W, hillbilly R&B, jazz and bathhouse chanteuses à la Bette Midler. Burgers and variations on classic pub nosh are available throughout the day, and Sunday roasts are served until 7pm.
