Perched just a few steps from the sandy seashore at Southsea, The Briny is a family-run British restaurant on the south coast, specialising in fresh fish and seafood.
The restaurant's interior decor is inspired by the sea and its surroundings. The walls are painted in shades of blue and green, and the furniture is made from natural materials such as wood and rattan. The restaurant has large windows that let in plenty of natural light, giving it a bright and airy feel, whilst nautical artwork and photographs on the walls adds to the seaside vibe.
As for the menu, The Briny offers a range of fresh seafood dishes, specialising in huge platters of fresh seafood. These platters need to be ordered ahead, but they can be shared amongst a big group and include native lobster or whole crab, oysters, crevettes, samphire, cockles, seaweed salt fries and sourdough. The restaurant sources its seafood locally, ensuring that the dishes are always fresh and of the highest quality. The menu also features vegetarian and vegan options, making it accessible to a range of dietary requirements.
Other dishes at The Briny include a Dorset crab roll with kimchi mayo, cured salmon with lemon, mascarpone and fennel, smoked haddock cake with spicy tomato emulsion, and roasted skate wing with white bean cassoulet. Vegans and vegetarians have lots of options too, ranging from heritage tomato tart with black garlic ketchup, seaweed gnocchi with asparagus, pea, and elephant garlic veloute.
As well as serving a range of beers, ciders and soft drinks, The Briny also carries a compact wine list and mixes a selection of house cocktails, including a lychee martini, and orange and thyme negroni.
