The Black Horse in Brentwood is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
A little Pub history
The original building was an inn that refreshed and accommodated pilgrims to the chapel dedicated to St. Thomas in 1221 travelling through Pilgrims Hatch. The Black Horse was built in around the 16th century as a small hall house, with a cross wing at the northern end, and a southern wing being added in the 17th century.
Our charming black and white timbered 16th century inn is a favourite with visitors to nearby Weald Country Park - some 500 acres with lakes and tree-lined avenues created by landscapers in the 18th century.
