With a modern take on a classic Victorian pub, The Bay Horse Tavern is a simply wonderful place to spend a sunny summer's afternoon or relax in the warmth on a chilly evening. On Thomas Street, which is in the heart of Manchester's Northern Quarter, is where you'll find this laid back pub. Inside, you'll be greeted with lots of personality and charm. The bar is always well stocked with a wide range of gins, craft beers and other beverages, and the kitchen is sure to be cooking up some delicious dishes.
For your main meal, begin with a starter like the caramelised onion tart with goat's cheese, balsamic glaze and a watercress salad, the pork belly in a cider glaze with apple slaw, or the tempura king prawns with a garlic mayonnaise. For a pub classic, try the selection of pies, like the slow braised steak and ale pie, the smoked applewood cheese and onion, or the pie of the week. Sandwiches are served from 12 until 5pm, and include the classic chicken BLT with pulled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and wholegrain mayo, as well as the halloumi with basil pesto and tomato.
Main dishes are of course just as classic, including the beer battered haddock with triple cooked chips, tartare sauce, mushy peas and curry sauce if you like it. Other dishes include the Cumberland sausage with garlic and chive mash and onion gravy, or a Lancashire hot pot with slow roasted lamb shoulder, caramelised onion and sliced crispy potatoes.
On Sunday, roasts are served to customers with a delicious, homemade Yorkshire pudding and all of the trimmings. Choose from roast chicken, Deep Clough Farm topside of beef, rolled pork belly and a butternut, sage and walnut roast. You can add the famous pigs in blankets if you're feeling fancy.
