SquareMeal Review of The Azulito Bar
Bronze Award
Weave through the queue for Thomasina Miers' permanently packed Wahaca, and dive downstairs to a garish party pit done out like a 1970s Guadalajara youth club complete with funky furniture, baby football, DJs and lots of Tequila. With prices starting below £6, it’s all too easy to put away deceptively strong, mouth-watering Margaritas, Lageritas, Mules and Tequila-jitos – so pace yourself. Top-peso shots (produced exclusively in Jalisco State from blue agave plants) are housed in backlit, mesh-fronted lockers, alongside a selection of premium mezcal, but like the best malt whisky, these fine tipples are for sipping – not slamming. Let enthusiastic staff guide you through the pick of the Reposados and Blancos, served with a side of fruity, spicy tomato-based sangrita to the sound of Latin and soulful beats.
