Following an inspiring trip to Japan in 2019, head chef Luke Findlay embarked on a ramen journey which resulted in the birth of Supa Ya Ramen. From hosting supper clubs in his own home, to the opening of a restaurant which swiftly closed down due to lockdown in March 2020, Findlay has been on a business rollercoaster, and yet Supa Ya Ramen Peckham is the second of the brand’s sites successfully established in London. And its success is for good reason.
With the Dalston branch proving a huge success, Supa Ya Ramen has become a cult favourite for Londoners desperate for their ramen fix. Just so you know, Findlay’s menu is described as ‘traditionally inauthentic’ - a fun mix of Japanese tradition and his own unique twists and British influence. The menu is short but sweet, featuring five ramen bowls to choose from, a selection of small plates, and three desserts.
Small plates are a beautiful collision of flavours; fried potatoes with hot honey, smacked cucumbers and sesame, or fried chicken with apricot and pickled red chillies – sure to get mouths watering at the very thought.
Standouts from the ramen bowl menu include the cheeseburger mazesoba (we told you it wasn’t an entirely traditional joint!), which involves a very hearty combination of beef fat noodles, smashed beef patty, bread and butter pickles, burger sauce, American cheese, and white sesame. The maple glazed pumpkin and chilli crunch bowl is also incredibly tempting, an equally delicious but this time meat-free bowl of warming roasted vegetable broth, sesame miso, maple glazed pumpkin, green onions, fudgy egg, and Supa Ya Chilli Crunch™?.
Desserts are exciting too, continuing on with the Japanese-inspired flavours and ingredients. Noodle ice cream with miso caramel, and tofu and coconut pudding with tahini cookie crumble are just some of the inspired choices on offer to round off a sensational meal.
With a casual, lively atmosphere, and low-key décor, Supa Ya Ramen is the ideal spot for an utterly delicious meal in a no-frills, unpretentious venue. Enjoy!
