Sugo Pasta does one thing, and, as we're sure you've guessed from the name, it's pasta.
This Glasgow Italian specialises in fresh pasta made to-order, authentically prepared in the manner of the Italian regions in which such dishes come from. As such, stepping foot in the restaurant can instantly transport you to Tuscany, Lazio, Emilia Romagna, Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo, Campania, Calabria, or Umbria.
The restaurant itself is a very lively and busy stop, with a dark environment lit up by a giant red SUGO sign. And the place is walk-in only, so you're not likely to be able to avoid a wait at peak times.
Sugo Pasta's menu is very affordable for the quality, as the pastas are usually under £13 each. You've got some of your standard choices of sides and desserts (think: bread with olive oil, burrata, tiramisu, cannolo...) but the real emphasis clearly is on the pasta itself. The restaurant has a rotating specials menu that is subject to change, but the set menu has about ten different dishes to choose from.
Our eyes are immediately drawn to the rigatoni all'arrabbiata from Lazio, featuring spicy San Marzano and fresh baby plum tomato sugo; the tagliolini with pesto, green beans and potato from Liguria; or the calamarata with baby squid ragu from Campania - and who could ever forget Lazio's cherished bucatini cacio e pepe? There are also vegan dishes on the menu, but be warned, none of the pastas can be made gluten free at this time.
Undoubtedly you'll need a drink to wash down all those carbs, and Sugo Pasta can oblige with its selection of wines, cocktails, beers, and soft drinks. Feel free to try out one of the desserts when you're done, but we're not so sure you'll have the space left in your stomach!
