Found in the Herefordshire countryside between London and Cambridge, Stevenage has a history that dates back to the Neolithic period. During the Tudor period, the town became a significant stopping point on the Great North Road. Today, it remains well connected, served by various railways destined for major cities across the country. It was the first New Town and experienced rapid urbanisation in the 1950s. But that’s not the only first. Stevenage is also the first town to have a completely pedestrianised town centre and receive dedicated cycle lanes. It also happens to be the birthplace of seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, and the actors Alex Pettyfer and Ed Westwick.

Stevenage restaurants tend to be fun, approachable, and diverse. Many of them are great for families, with plenty of options spanning pocket-pleasing pasta restaurants, tried and tested UK favourites, and flavourful Mediterranean restaurants. But there are lesser-known eateries near Stevenage too. With top-quality local produce, restaurants in Hertfordshire have developed a reputation for exceptional fine dining and sustainable practices, and many of them are well-suited for celebrations and romantic occasions.
