This sweet, independent neighbourhood café is just a short stroll from the Royal Pavilion in Brighton with its signature sweeping curved lines and impressive architectural structure. Ideal as a pitstop before or after some good old fashioned sight-seeing, this award-winning coffee shop serves up some of the city’s best brunch plates in warm and cosy surrounds, at clean, simple wooden tables and colourfully painted wooden chairs.
During the week there’s a selection of pastries made freshly by The Flour Pot Bakery down the road, which makes all its bakes with artisanal ingredients for the very best finish. Other options include all kinds of pancakes (bacon, berry or pear) plus an avocado smash that comes with chilli and maple butternut squash, crispy kale, pomegranate seeds and micro herbs.
Come the weekend there’s the option to make it a cocktail brunch with espresso martinis, Bloody Marys, mimosas, Pimm’s or Aperol spritzes to choose from (although, nobody is making you reserve these for weekends only, you could treat yourself on any old Wednesday). On Saturdays and Sundays there are also extended plates, which include a moreish chorizo hash with potatoes, roasted beetroot, red onion, spinach, miso emulsion, fried eggs, and a burnt onion and smoked chipotle ketchup.
If you prefer something that feels more lunchy than bruncy, there is also a loaded butternut squash soup that is topped with roasted winter veggies, grilled tofu, homemade croutons, coconut milk and seeds; or sourdough toast piled up with leeks, mushrooms, poached eggs, a Parmesan bechamel and kale crisps. Whatever you choose, the ingredients will have been carefully sourced, with the team passionate about using local, seasonal produce on their plates.
The café also has a children’s menu should you be bringing the little ones along, so make sure to ask for one if you’re dining as a family.
