After an unbelievable journey from Turkey to the UK, Huseyin Ozer’s one dream was to set up a restaurant from his homeland in the UK. Thus, Sofra was born. The restaurant, recommended by the Michelin Guide, is located in the vibrant yet intimate St Christopher’s Square and delivers authentic, healthy Turkish food as well as a fusion of international dishes.
Offering all-day dining, you can enjoy breakfast with eggs Royale, Florentine and Sofra-style scrambled eggs. Dinner highlights a host of traditional starters of baba ganoush, muhammara or tabbouleh. Go on to feast on a variety of different dishes from all over the world including a selection of grilled meats served simply with rice and salad (how they eat it in Turkey). Or, if you fancy a ‘Japanese style’ black cod, French beef bourguignon or spaghetti Bolognese, these are also available.
If, however, you prefer to stick to the traditional cuisine that Sofra is known for, you have more than enough to choose from. Think lamb tagines, falafel wraps, koftes and fattoush. For a sweet finish, opt for the house speciality Su Muhallebesi cubes of milk pudding and rose syrup with berries and nuts or get the warm Kunefe a Turkish sweet cheese pastry – to finish your Middle-Eastern dining experience. Tasting menus are also on offer for when you’re feeling experimental (or for when you just can’t decide what you want to eat).
Priding itself on the concept of ‘good Turkish food and hospitality’, Sofra offers a homey and comfortable atmosphere. This is great for both family dinners and lunches with friends. If you can’t get enough of the food you’ve tasted, the restaurant has a cookbook that is sure to add some excitement to your everyday cooking. If not (we don’t judge), you can always pop back for a warm welcome and quality Turkish food.
