A friend of mine suggested in a dinner date at the Hilton's Society Bar & Restaurant after work. I was a little apprehensive to be going to a hotel's restaurant for dinner however decided to be open-minded. All I can say is; WOW! The bar where I met her for a drink beforehand was large and spacious, with eye-catching decor. I loved the bright blue chairs. We ordered a cocktail each and oh my heavens they were scrummy. I had the Breakfast Martini (odd cocktail I know, but that’s why I tried it) and it was sublime. After all the fuss and fascination with the cocktails we headed to the restaurant for dinner.
The dining area again was spacious and I have to say it did feel nice not to be squished up super close to your neighbours and have to spend most of the night focusing extra hard on your own table's conversation. I find the uncontrollable urge to lean over to the other table 10 inches from yours and interject your own opinion can sometimes be draining come dessert. I digress…
On to the food: the menu was like a good book that you just cant put down, you'd choose something, close the menu and then think “but wait, the other thing sounds good too… ”. And so our poor waiter had to come back 3 times as I couldn't decide on what to have, everything sounded so good! I eventually decided on the asparagus starter, which was delightfully fresh, light and tasty. For mains I had the trio of pork cuts, can’t remember the name on the menu, but it is so worth making a special visit to this restaurant just to try it. I can quite honestly say I have never tasted anything so wonderful. I am not a “foodie” so wont bore you with a long-winded, flowery explanation of how each mouthful melted… NO! You just gotta try it. Its mind blowing!
Needless to say, my poor dinner date didn't get much out of me for the rest of that night apart from the odd nod and “ummmm…” when I could tear my concentration away from the amazing flavours I was putting in my mouth. I like that you got to try 3 cuts of pork and they all tasted so different and wonderful.
For those of you chose your desserts before your mains, I can assure you they are pretty sexy looking and taste just as gorgeous.
I think I am off to make another reservation now to drag my boyfriend (who doesn’t like pork) to try this restaurant. He will afterwards!
