Having taken over what used to be JD Wetherspoons pub The Cribbar in 2020, the Newquay outpost of the Slug & Lettuce is situated just a moment's walk from the coast on Gover Lane. Serving an affordable menu of pub classics, the Slug & Lettuce is a family friendly restaurant too, meaning that it's a fantastic option for all occasions. Benefitting from a fantastic bar which has a late license, it also makes a great late night spot to come for a few drinks, while the afternoon tea menu offers something completely different again.
A brightly lit sign on the outside of the pub welcomes customers into the pub, which has been colourfully decorated to give the place both a contemporary and spaceous feel. Pink flowers hang from the ceiling and a mish-mash of plants stand on shelves on the white walls. Seats come in the form of a mixture of floral banquettes and patterned chairs, and there is also a small outdoor area which can be used during the summer.
The Slug and Lettuce's food menu begins with a series of small plates such as southern-fried chicken goujons with barbecue sauce, chicken and chorizo croquettes, and sweet chilli marinated salmon skewers. Main courses range from burgers such as smoky beef and a vegan option, to crowd pleasers like battered cod and chips, lasagne, and rump steak with all the trimmings, while there are desserts on offer including mini churros and a limoncello drizzle sponge.
Visit between 12-4pm to take advantage of the Slug & Lettuce's afternoon tea menu, which costs just £14 per person for sanwiches, scones, cakes and a hot drink, or for £20 you can have two alcoholic drinks instead. The drinks menu is focused around classic cocktails, but there are plenty of other options on offer too, both for drinkers and non-drinkers.
