Having had success in multiple cities across the UK, chef Nico Simeone has opened a second outpost of his 'Six by Nico' concept in Glasgow - the city where the first restaurant opened back in 2017. Found in the Southside neighbourhood of the city on the quiet Nithsdale Road, Six by Nico follows Simeone's tried and tested formula of offering an affordable six-course tasting menu based on a theme which changes every six weeks. As is the case at all branches of the small chain, there is a focus on serving beautifully presented, playful dishes which all showcase high quality produce. With its informed but laidback service and relaxed ambience, Six by Nico is great spot to go for a special but reasonably priced meal.
Six by Nico Southside's dining room has a bistro-y feel to it inside with a mixture of leather banquettes, booths and chairs in terms of seating, and relatively little by the way of décor apart from various pendant lights hanging from above. With space for just 30-covers, it's a relatively intimate affair but that only adds to the buzzy atmosphere when the place is packed full of customers.
The tasting menu on offer at Six by Nico, which costs just £29 per person, may change every six weeks but a sense of inventive runs through all the different themes. Past menus have included Childhood, New York, and The Chippie, which included six reinvented fish and chips classics such as chips and cheese (parmesan espuma, a crisp, curry oil, a brandade croquette, vinegar powder and brown sauce) and a take on the deep-fried Mars Bar (chocolate pave with blood orange sorbet and cocoa nib).
In terms of drinks, for just £26 you can opt for a wine pairing, or you can choose a bottle yourself from the short but sweet wine list.
