With multiple restaurants across the UK, Six by Nico has turned into somewhat of a brand since the Glasgow original opened back in 2017. The Finnieston spot is where chef Nico Simeone first trialled his simple concept of offering a six-course tasting menu based around a theme, which changes every six weeks, and it is still just as popular as when it first opened. Focused around serving beautifully presented dishes which showcase simple ingredients at their finest, Six by Nico has earnt a reputation for being very reasonably priced given the quality of cooking.
Located in Merchant City in Glasgow's West End, Six by Nico has a relaxed yet elegant feel to it. Large windows at the front of the restaurant allow plenty of light to flood in, while there is little by the way of décor apart from a large VI on the wall as a nod to the restaurant's name. Seating is a mixture of banquettes and chairs which sit around wooden and marble-topped tables.
Although the food offering changes every six weeks, what all the menus have in common apart from the fact that they have six dishes is the playfulness of the dishes which often consist of contemporary twists on the classics, and sometimes take their inspiration from Simeone's own memories. Themes at Six by Nico in the past have included childhood, which included reimaginings of fish fingers and eggy soldiers, and the chippie, which took diners on a modern journey through the classic British fish and chips shop.
To accompany the affordable tasting menu is an equally reasonable wine pairing. Alternatively, you can choose from the impressive list of wines, gins, beers, whiskeys and more, with a number of premium soft drinks also on offer for children and non-drinkers.
